If you want to fly at the pointy end of the plane more regularly, maximising your opportunities to add to your frequent flyer points is critical.

Luckily for business travellers, airlines have expanded the reach of their frequent flyer programs to deliver earning opportunities in unexpected ways.

Buying a home is a prime example.

Earning frequent flyer points shouldn't be the deciding factor in one of the life's biggest decisions but taking advantage of the opportunity can deliver a lump sum of points that's difficult to acquire in any other transaction.

Some of the biggest opportunities in the market include:

NAB Home Loans - National Australia Bank is currently offering new home loan customers 250,000 Virgin Velocity frequent flyer points. To put that in perspective, 250,000 Velocity points can get you a Business Class return airfare from Australia to the USA and almost anywhere in between.

Macquarie Bank - Customers can pick up 160,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points on a $500,000 home loan over the first five years.

Virgin Money – Virgin Money offers a range of opportunities for earning Velocity points on its home loan products including lump sums on settlement, monthly payments and on third year anniversaries.

LK Property Group - Melbourne's LK Property Group is offering purchasers one Qantas Frequent Flyer point per dollar spent on its eligible properties.
