Singapore's world renowned Changi Airport has been named as the World's Best Airport for the fourth consecutive year at the 2016 World Airport Awards.

Changi's superior features took the prize ahead of Seoul's Incheon International Airport and Munich International Airport.

The airport has long been regarded a top tier stopover destination and is one of the busiest hubs in the world for business travellers. Its extensive range of amenities, shopping, restaurants and bars serves as the pinnacle example for international airports around the world.

So what makes Changi so outstanding?

Butterfly Garden - An airport would generally be one of the most unlikely places for a wildlife habitat but Changi's innovative Butterfly Garden is one of its most popular attractions. More than 1,000 tropical butterflies populate the enclosure which also features a six metre waterfall among the greenery.

Located: Terminal 3, levels 2 and 3 - Departure Transit Lounge.

Entertainment Deck - One of Changi Airport's best locations to pass the time. The Entertainment Deck offers the latest in digital multimedia including games consoles, a movie theatre, an MTV booth and Xbox Kinect room for travellers looking to get active. There's also a cafeteria close by in case a few rounds of FIFA gives you the munchies.

Located: Terminal 2, level 3 - Departure transit lounge.

Free city tours - Taking in the sights of Singapore is a great way to beat a long layover. Changi Airport runs two free city tours covering some of its most famous attractions. The airport's Heritage Tour runs six times per day and its City Sights Tour runs three times per day. Availability is on a first come first serve basis.

Located: Terminals 2 and 3, transit areas.

Shopping - Changi Airport boasts one of the world's best airport shopping experiences with a collection of world renowned duty free and retail outlets. Japanese retail giant UNIQLO has recently opened its first airport transit store at Changi.

Future developments - Changi Airport's Jewel development is still a few years away from opening but when it does, it will take Singapore's airport experience to another level. Jewel is a 134,000sqm mixed use complex located in the airport grounds. Upon completion it will feature world class retail and dining, spectacular indoor gardens and cultural attractions designed to deliver the real character of Singapore.
