Updated Marriott app delivers even more time savers
Marriott has updated its mobile app for Android and iOS with more streamlined time saving features for Marriott Rewards members. Members can take advantage of mobile check in, check out and room ready alerts. Marriott also has more features in the works to take its mobile check in one step further and allow guests to skip the kiosks and use their smartphone as their room key.
Air New Zealand named best in the world
Air New Zealand has been named the world's best airline by AirlineRatings.com. The carrier was recognised for using superior technology in its in flight experience and its green friendly initiatives. Qantas was also recognised for best domestic service, best catering and best airport lounges.
Mantra opens its eighth hotel in Brisbane
Mantra Group has signed a management deal for a brand new boutique hotel in Brisbane’s Spring Hill. The 110-room Richmont Hotel by Mantra is scheduled to open in December 2015. It will be Mantra’s eighth hotel in Brisbane.
SQ and VA launch frequent flyer conversion
Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia have launched a new frequent flyer conversion initiative. KrisFlyer and Velocity members can convert their frequent flyer miles and points between programs at a rate of 1.35 to 1.00, offering greater access to Reward Seats and flight upgrades. KrisFlyer members will also be able to benefit from Velocity’s range of non-flight redemption rewards.
Virgin launches ADL/ASP
Virgin Australia is introducing a tri-weekly non-stop service between Adelaide and Alice Springs. The route will operate on B737-800 aircraft from March 2015. The carrier also has plans for a regional lounge in Alice Springs.
Shangri-La boost China network
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has opened its 88th property in China. The 450-room Shangri-La Hotel Nanjing is located in the centre of the Gulou District of Nanjing city, overlooking Xuanwu Lake. The property offers easy access to all areas of the city via the adjacent underground train network.
Qantas expands MU deal
Qantas and China Eastern Airlines have signed a new joint venture to co-locate operations at Shanghai's Terminal 1. The carriers will also co-ordinate schedules and pricing on the Sydney-Shanghai route, offer a joint lounge and streamline check-in facilities. Potential new direct routes from Brisbane and Perth to Shanghai are also under consideration.
China Eastern debuts B777-300ER
China Eastern Airlines has flown its inaugural B777-300ER service to New York JFK. The aircraft will be used for the airline’s daily services to JFK. There are also plans to operate the aircraft on its LAX routes once it takes delivery of two additional planes in December.
