London's Gatwick Airport sees retail expansion

London's Gatwick Airport has added 10 new stores to its South Terminal retail offering including Aspinal of London, Ernest Jones and the largest Zara airport store in the world.

The 4,500sq ft Zara outlet spearheaded the airport's retail expansion along with a 1,000sq ft Ted Baker store and a 1,000sq ft Snow+Rock store.

The retail expansion is part of a GBP £40 million revamp of the airport's South Terminal which includes a total of 21 new outlets.

London Gatwick Head of Retail Spencer Sheen said more than 80 per cent of the airport's passengers rated the retail space as excellent or good.

"We are very proud of the completion of the South Terminal International Departure Lounge which takes airport shopping and the passenger experience to a whole new level," Mr Sheen said.

"Our new retail space not only demonstrates our forward thinking but also our desire to deliver on what our passengers ask for, be it a luxury department store or a high-street favourite."

The stores were selected on the basis of in-depth passenger research which found 56 per cent of the participants wanted high street and international brands, 38 per cent sought premium department stores and 22 per cent wanted designer brands in the airport.

Other outlets included in the South Terminal expansion included Superdry, Fat Face, Best of the Best, London News, Mango, Joules and Victoria's Secret.
