NZ a popular target for Aussie business travellers

The number of Australians heading to New Zealand for business is increasing according to new data released by Tourism New Zealand (TNZ).

The TNZ Australian Market Visitor Profile showed 14 per cent of all Australian visitors to New Zealand cited business travel as the reason and 3 per cent visiting for conferences.

164,784 Australians travelled to New Zealand for business in 2014 representing a 6.9 per cent increase on the 2013.

The number of Australian visitors to New Zealand has been increasing since 2007, and reached 1,237,000 in February this year. Of those visitors, 82 per cent came from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

The typical length of stay for people travelling to New Zealand for business is 6.5 days with Aussie holiday makers averaging 11.3 days for stays in the land of the long white cloud. 

TNZ's 2012-2013 report of New Zealand tourism found that people travelling to New Zealand for conferences were the biggest spenders, spending an average of more than $3000 per visit. 

Once in New Zealand, nearly 60 per cent used a car for their mode of transport, followed by 30 per cent using a scheduled coach service and approximately 25 per cent using a taxi or limousine car tour.
