27 Aug 2014

The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) has released its annual report of airline on time performance for the 2013-14 financial year and for a fifth consecutive year, Qantas had the best on time performance of any Australian airline.

The airline recorded above average on time performance for departures (87.5 per cent) and arrivals (86.4 per cent).

Qantas Domestic Chief Executive Officer Lyell Strambi said punctuality was one of the reasons people chose to fly with Qantas and the results showed the airline was continuing to provide premium service to passengers.

Overall, the performance record of all Australian airlines improved in the last financial year. The figures show 83.8 per cent of departures left on time and 81.9 per cent of arriving flights arrived on time.

In the 2012-13 financial year, the airlines achieved 81.1 per cent for departures and 78.8 per cent for arrivals.

Australian airlines slightly exceeded the long term average performance of on time departures of 83.7 per cent, however they did not reach the equivalent average for arrivals of 82.2 per cent.
