Travel update - Proposed air traffic controller strike Germany

Germany's air traffic controller union is proposing a six-hour strike at airports across the country from 6am local time Thursday 4 August 2011.

The stop-work action is expected to cause severe flight delays and cancellations at a number of airports.

German authorities are investigating the legality of the strike, with work currently underway to prevent the stop-work event.

If the strike goes ahead an estimated 2,500 of Germany's 10,000 daily flights may be cancelled.

Travellers are advised to confirm all flights to and from Germany.
