Qantas has introduced an innovative new way for passengers to snag an upgrade when they're running low on Frequent Flyer Points.
The carrier's Bid Now Upgrades program sends invitations to Qantas Frequent Flyer members with the opportunity to bid on premium cabin seats with a combination of Frequent Flyer Points and money.
The program is geared for Qantas Frequent Flyer members looking to upgrade but who may not have a points balance large enough to upgrade to a premium cabin seat.
Passengers will need a minimum of 3,000 Qantas Points to be eligible to bid for domestic upgrades and 5,000 points for international upgrades. Minimum payments are also required.
Bid invitations will be emailed approximately a week prior to departure. Passengers will be able to make, change or cancel their upgrade offer up until 24 hours before scheduled departure.
Passengers can also make, change or cancel upgrade bids up until 24 hours before scheduled departure.
Qantas will notify passengers with winning bids via email between 24 and 12 hours before takeoff.
Points and charges are automatically deducted from the winning bidder's account and passengers whose bids are unsuccessful will keep their previous seat
