The Executive’s flight path to London

Gone are the days when executives booked the cheapest available business class seat. The elite travellers of today understand that their choice of airline can dramatically impact their journey, performance upon arrival and overall business outcomes. Others are simply looking for the most luxe offering available, the most bang for their buck, or the most direct flight.

“With so many options, and well over a dozen carriers covering the Sydney to London route alone, it can be complex to know which flight to book and why,” said Corporate Traveller Global Managing Director Tom Walley.

“The modern executive's decision matrix extends far beyond traditional considerations of price and schedule convenience, and instead evaluates multiple dimensions that directly impact business performance: speed of arrival, the time of day flying and landing, wellness, food and drink options, the best loyalty alignments, and even sustainability credentials.

“Time is the ultimate luxury, and a two-hour arrival time variance or a superior sleep experience can be the difference between closing a deal or losing it – or just enjoying the first day of your holiday, or sleeping through it.”

Corporate Traveller is decoding the art of premium air travel to London, known to be the gateway to the rest of Europe.

  • The shortest journey

Qantas flight QF9, departing Perth at 19:15

Still the only true Australia to London nonstop route, Qantas’s 17.5-hour Perth to London flight is the shortest travel time if you can start in Perth or route through Perth. Qantas’s roughly 20-hour Sydney to London direct flight is on the cards under Project Sunrise from 2027.

  • Best arrival time of day

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to an early morning local-time arrival, which allows you to sleep on the flight overnight. Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Emirates all operate multiple late evening departures that get you on the ground at Heathrow in time for the day to begin.

Flight and stopover durations total between 22-25 hours, so the preference comes down to whether you’d prefer to have more time on the stopover to refresh, or get to your destination sooner.

Qatar Airway’s QR10 allows you to clear customs and reach central London by no later than 8:30am. With travel time no longer than 24 hours – including the Doha stopover – and departing in the evening, travellers can get a bit of sleep on both flights to feel refreshed upon an early morning landing in London.

Singapore Airlines offers a similar flight from Sydney to London on SQ322 at 23:20, covering up to 24 hours of travel, including a Singapore stopover, landing at Heathrow at 05:15.
